’Home’ is defined as a goal or destination.
Patch Adams showed the students the significance of having a goal in life. A goal provides direction and brings our energies to a focus.
The students saw Patch admit himself into a psychiatric ward and how he found his goals. They identified with his long journey to getting a better life and living his passion. His antics at the hospital tickled them and his submission speech for his appeal held the students in their seats. They could feel him; his passion.
For the nursing students, I used Patch Adams to introduce to them the alternative therapy of using laughter and happy moments. The nurses were awe-inspired. I reminded them to treat the patients in their care as their friends, with dignity and respect.
It really doesn’t matter whether you are from the nursing course, business or applied sciences, the film Patch Adams touched you in some way. Share with us your moment.
