This is not a movie for all classrooms. Only you, the teacher will know if this is right for your class. This is not a movie for the faint hearted.

I showed this movie to a bunch of final year engineering students. Having a group of male students who were a little more mature than my other co-ed classes, made it a “comfortable” choice.

This movie is banned in Singapore & Malaysia. The violence, sex, racial slurs and pervasive language in the movie is raw, uncompromising and brutal but very necessary in telling the story.

Synopsis: Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton) returns from prison to find his younger brother, Danny (Edward Furlong), caught in the same web of racism and hatred that landed him in prison. While in prison, Derek discovers that there is good and bad in every race. When he returns from prison reformed, his younger brother Daniel who idolizes him is on the brink of becoming a Neo Nazi himself. Derek must save his younger brother from a similar fate. Learning Points:

Ask students what they think of the following:

·        His father taught him to hate. His friends taught him rage. His enemies gave him hope.

·        Some Legacies Must End.

·        United by hate, divided by truth
