“Do you want Better?”

4 08 2008

Everyone wants personalised treatment. Everyone wants my attention. And I know I need to give everyone my attention. The quiet ones, the reticent ones, the noisy ones, the bad mouth ones, the PSP ones, the clever ones, the slower ones, the girls …
Even today.
While they were watching Coach Carter, I was scribbling key phrases and quotes on the board.

” Your handwriting is terrible,” one commented. I smiled and continued.

The fact that he made such comments, he was reading.

I scribbled…
What are your priorities?
What are your distractions?
What is your deepest/ greatest fear?
We are a team (a class)
When one struggles. everyone struggle.
When one triumphs, everyone triumph.
Taunting – laughing at others(teasing).
This was from the scene when the players were self glorifying and Coach was chiding them for taunting and insulting the opponents.

Then I stopped the video when Coach asked the team whether they wanted to change their lives,” Do you want better?”

We continued watching at the next lesson.

After that, I projected the quote, “The Deepest Fear”

Our Deepest Fear
By Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

Note:
This inspiring quote is taken from Marianne Williamson’s book A Return to Love. Though often quoted as part of Nelson Mandela’s moving inaugural speech, “Our Deepest Fear” does not appear in the speech. Marianne Williamson herself has commented on this mistaken attribution.

When ever our lalala [LLA] teacher ms ceceila leong show my class a movie, our class will be veri excited as most of the movie are fun and there is alway thing for us to learn. A movie on Coach cartar was shown to us. The movie is about a basketball coach wanting the best for this student. Although during the mid of the show many parent object him as he want his student to wear tie and sit at the front row for each classes. But i think it is for the student. However Coach Cartar basketball training is like HELL. 2000 push up etc. And ya at the end of the movie all his student did well, some even make it to the university and some have bright basketball furture awaiting them. What I learn in this movie is that no matter how many people object to you, you should never ever think of giving up. And i agree to him is that we should not treat basketball with trash talking and taunting..However i wont never want to be in his HELL basketabll Training..xD

My LLA teacher Ms ceceila leong showed my class the movie coach carter.
The Movie was about a coach who was invited to richmond high to coach basketball.
From the start the players were quite alright with the basketball skill they have.
But coach carter gave them intensive training. So they become better and better in their basketball skills. Coach carter coached in a very unique, something about his sisters. It wonders me how many sisters he had. Haha.
Alright so with the coach by Coach carter and the efforts the players putted in , they started winning matches.
In the end, some of the players went to university and some had bright future waiting for them.
I learned that teamwork is a important factor no matter in academic or in sports.
Also if someone has a goal to achieve in their life. Go ahead and do your best to reaches that goal no matter how hard it was. As in the end you be able to taste the feeling of success. But Even if you did no manage to reach your goal, you still can taste the feeling of success as you yourself knew that you had did your best!

During the LLA lesson,Ms ceceila leong, our teacher showed my class the movie about Coach Carter. The Movie was about a coach who was being invited to Richmond High School to train basketball players for the better.Coach Carter trained de players with his own teaching methods and his own principle about respecting each other.Treating each other as an adult by calling each other ‘SIR’.He not only wanted his players to play well for the basketball,he also wanted them to do well for their studies by scoring above 2.8 GPA score. If they did not do well for their studies, they were banned for basketball from their coach,Coach Carter, which they had been banned for a period of time.Eventhought alot of the parents and de public disagreed with his behaviour,he did not give up but continued to perserver his goal by wanting his players to do well in everything that they have agreed and signed in the contract. He wanted them to planned for thier future and to have at least a aim to go to college to be a better person.Becuase without going to college, they will either go to jail or be nothing. After all the hard work done, all the player become a successful man by having a position each.I have learned about in this movie was to have my own principle and to perserver in my own goal to have a successful result.Never care about what others think about you that will come against ur goal.

well, when the LLA teacher, miss ceceila leong, showed my class a movie, the whole class was filled with joy and excitement because i suppose they want to pick up a few pointers relating to life by watching the movie.the movie coach carter was showned and the movie describes about a former 1972 richmond high school student, now a basket ball coach wants to bring out the potential in his players but there was a rather interesting part of the movie, the players had to wear ties during their matches which most parents strongly objected and sit in the front rows of the clases at all times but it was for the best of the students and the training was tiring, doing over a thousand plus push ups and suicides, etc

well, the conclusion is that all the players from the team graduated from high school with excellent results and some went to pursue a career in basketball.what i learnt from this movie,is perserverance.don’t let what people say about you,it’s your life and you can prove it if your have the determination and the mentality plus we shouldn’t take things for granted and i agree that we should not treat basketball with insults.

watched this moive in class, shown by ms zak. i think overall the moive is good. as there is points that we can pick up in the moive. i like the way coach carter actually treat all of the team member with respect and no favouritism. i like the united spirit in the team. 1 for all and all for 1. but what keeps me thinking was that question coach carter asked. what is your deepest fear? what is my deepest fear? i kept asking myself this question. never really did come across with this question before. what is my deepest fear? my deepest fear is “XXX”. although there are certain parts that i do not understand why he do certain things. eventually it reveal and showing how coach carter really want to change them. not only to change them to be someone that play very good basketball but also a successful person. he want to change their life. to a better one.

do you want better? yes!!!! i want!!! but is useless to just say “yes i want.” changes must be done. are you willing to change? are u willing to go out of your comfort zone to an unfarmilar territory? this is another thing. another choice. changes begin with yourself. but how? what kind of changes are you going to take? are you sure the changes that you going to make will really make you better?

what is your priorities? as student, the model answer to this question is “study” really? to me, study is not my priority. study is necessary but study is not eaqual to everything. in japan, alot of students commit suicide because they fail to pass their exam. study is not equal to life. what then will be the your priority?

I think that Coach Carter had done a great job in teaching the kids basketball and in academic.Although that when he announced that he wanted to stop all the basketball practices and moved on into the academic, many parents and students disagreed with it and made a fuss out of it.This even went to the court and many people disagreed with Coach Carter,he even resigned himself.Even though it had made many people angry with him,he still follow his own style of teaching-his basketball training was tough but many went through it and make results in their competitions.Even they did not won the finals, some had made into the U and some had good future in basketball.

We were born to shine, just with determination, efforts, patience, nothing is impossible. Our own fear for not doing something was not others, but yourself. We must overcome the fear within us to acheive a better results. We should not give up easily when problems came forth us,but not running away and you may regret it.

Personally,i did not manage to catch the whole movie. However, this movie has succeeded in enthralling all of us.The movie,”Coach Carter”,taught us many vital lessons that we can apply in our personal lives. For instance, there are various scenes that potrayed the basketball coach, trying his best to discipline his team players. He tried ways and means to lead them to a successful life. However, his plans backfired cause nothing came as easy.He had to go through arguments and disagreements from the public and was seen as a disgrace by the parents.Reason being was,he decided to lock the gym up,where the players usually did their trainings there, for they had performed terribly bad in their academics.Basketball has been the boys “bread and butter”.However,Coach Carter thought that too much attention in basketball that drove them to failure. After much considerations from the parents, they then decided for the school authorities to fire him.He was on the verge of giving up on his career, but something held him back. When he was about to leave the school,he caught a glimpse that his boys were actually studying with the help of group of teachers in the gym itself. He was determined and has faith in them.In the end, most of them made to university. All thanks to Coach Carter and themselves of course, for being determined to change for the better.

All in all,if we have confident in ourselves,we’ll for sure succeed in life one day.If its not today, tomorrow will be the day.If we really want to achieve something, work hard for it and don’t give up.Obstacles will definitely come in between when we’re in the midst of achieving something, but that doesnt mean we should regard failure as a boundary. We should regard it as a motivation for us to break it.Nothing comes easy.

During LLA lesson , Miss Zak , our teacher showed us the Coach Carter movie . The movie was about a coach in Richmond High School training basketball players . Coach Carter used his methods and principle to teach the players . Treating each other like adult by calling each other ‘ Sir ’ . He wanted his players to play well for basketball but at the same time also do well in their studies by getting 2.8 GPA and above . If they did not do well for their studies , they were being banned for basketball , until they can do well in their studies . Then they are able to play basketball again . As Coach Carter stopped the basketball training and locked up the gym . A lot of parents and public disagreed with his decision and action and were all against him but he did not give up and continued to reach for his goal by wanting his players to do well in everything that they had agreed and signed in the contract previously . He wanted them to planned for thier future and to at least go to the college to continue their studies , to have a better future . Becuase Coach Carter knew that without going to the college , they will either go to jail or be a nobody . After all the hard work that Coach Carter and his players putted in , all the players became successful men . From this movie , i learnt that , to be successful , i need to have my own principle and ways to reach for my goal . And to persevere so as to reach my goal . And never bother about what others think about you and things that will come against your goal . Just believe in yourself and work hard and persevere to reach our goal . :-)

At first,i thought the movie is all about basketball stuffs as i only manage to watch it halfway. But it turns out that this movie does has a hidden message that we all can learn from.

The basketball team had made the school proud by winning many tournaments. So after the hard work they put in,they decided to have some fun by attending a party without Coach Carter’s consent. He found out and was furious. What makes him more furious was when all along he thought that the boys did well in their studies. But actually each of them was failing. So he decided to cancel all basketball trainings and tournaments. His main aim was for the boys to focus and improve on their studies. He went through a lot of obstacles but he never gave up.He did not want his boys to mix with bad company and end up in jail just like his old friends. In the end, most of the boys done well and manage to go through University.

I learn that in order to succeed,we should not neglect our studies no matter how good you are in sports. We should know how to balance our time management in both studies and CCA.Last but not least, determination is one of the key to success.

One of my favourite inspiring movies is Coach Carter. Its about a basketball coach who wants his players to excel in both academically and curriculum. However, some of the players did not manage to do so.Therefore, alot of conflicts happens between them and the coach. The part that inspire me was that the coach managed to push them through and motivated them although he has been strict and always have his own stand of what he is doing. I should say coach carter has his own vision and goals despite him being strict. He wants to make a different in the future generations as he doesn’t want history to repeat itself.

Peace out.

Our teacher Ms Zac showed us the movie Coach Carter in our LLA lesson. Coach Carter is a coach in Richmond. He was originally from Richmond therefore he knows that in Richmond, the number of people that are able to graduate from school to go to college is only a hanful. Therefore after taking over from the previous coach, he made everyone in the team sign a contract. Because of this contract, Coach Carter even locked up he gym. Some of the team members were not able to meet the requirments of the contract therefore all of them had to go to the library to study. This not on ly alerted the parents but the media too. A vote was taken and 4 out of 6 people were in favour of breaking the locks. However, the team didn’t start practicing. They shifted their tables into the gym and continued to practice there. Coach Carter decided not to leave Richmond after seeing this. From this movie, i learned that in a team, there is no such thing as “I”.. As a team, we fall and rise together. I have enjoyed myself and i hope that we can continue having such activities.. =)

The movie “Coach Carter” allows me to stop and think what my journey in life is going to be. This is a nice movie and it make me feel relax and really enjoy watching.

Although the coach is very strict to the basketball player but he has been doing that for the benefit of them. He himself know that being a good player is not enough as something might happen such as an accident. What will their life be without playing basketball it could mean that their goal in life is gone and it is even more sad that they do not have any degree in their study, what can they do in their life without able to play basketball and without any degree. He did not want them to end up in jail or being killed without a good degree although they might be a good player. At the starting, Coach Carter has already told them his requirement for them in school of both basketball and study. Contract has also being sign by him and the player. Coach Carter really teaches them the technique and skills of how to play and become a good player, their skill really improve a lot but their training is really tiring.

But once he find that the player have not been attending lesson and their result is really bad, he lock up the gym where they play basketball. There comes a lot of disagreement from the player, player’s parent, and public. News keeps on reporting and it even end up in court. Gym is open for game again but coach Carter quiet his job. It seem that everything is as usual but surprise the player will studying very hard in the gym and is very commit to get the GPA score set by the coach. Without getting the score that coach Carter set they are not going to play. It the preserver of the coach that motivate them to do the very best.

In the end, some went to U to continue their study while other players become a good basketball player. They all believe in themselves and want a better future which they did it.

From Coach Carter, we also learnt that what he teaches his player is right. We need to have his term spirit of doing thing such that having the term spirit thing can be able to complete faster, easier and happier. Some of the players have some fail subject but after their hard work, they get good result so why can’t we. It the matter if we want to do it or not, if we try our very best then no matter what the outcome we will also is able to accept it. Respect other is also a must thing to do in life, if you respect other so does other to respect you, it really depend on how you treat them.

Coach Carter,a movie base on a true story.
During LLA Ms Zak showed us this movie.it is a great movie.Even though the first beginning was quite heart breaking because the boys were not interested in studies..i really like what the coach did he locked the gym and cancelled their training in order to get them to study.
even that their parents disagree he still didn’t care as he wants the boys to excel in their studies.
it really touches my heart when the boys finally realised that they need to study..
even though the gym was unlocked they studied in the gym.

in the end they did great in basketball and studies.
for me this movie is a great motivation.
as it is telling me that no matter how hard your life is studies and play must be balance.
whatever your fear is you must get up and fight it all..

Coach carter is a hero. He taught me how to love,to listen,to learn,to BELIEVE. Believe in myself.
In the movie, he pushed every single one of the students to reach far. To learn to stand back up when they fall, HARD. He made sure the students believed in themselves first before they can achieve.

DEFINATION:Fear is an intense aversion to or apprehension of a person, place, activity, event, or object that causes emotional distress and often avoidance behavior.
Fear, what does it mean to me? To you? It has BILLIONS of meaning for every single one of us.In,studies,Life,Love,Family, even yourself.

We are able to achieve great things. We are the soul bearer of our own paths. Fear is an obstacle that everyone has to overcome. To achieve great achievements, we should work hard at it, be focused. Do whatever it takes for that achivement to feel real. TO MAKE IT GENUINELY YOURS. Nothing will be given to you freely or that easily.
To be on par with the best of the best, we have to make sacrifises, to endure, to be critisized at. If all these equals to fear, overcome it. Once you’ve passed the obstacle, you are one step away from it.

Kenneth Carter is officially offered a part-time job coaching the basketball team at his old high school, an inner-city public school in Richmond. He discovers the players to be unruly and disrespectful, he accepts and starts to gain their respect. So Coach sets strict new rules for the team in the form of contracts — they must maintain a 2.3 grade point average, they must attend classes and sit in the front row, and they must wear jackets and ties on game days. They having a tough training whenever they have practices. This is to ensure they could win the match. But the student had disappoint the coach because their studies wasn’t up to his expectation. So he got no choice but to lock the gym room. Even though the parent disagree with what he have done. i think this is for the student own good. As it is the only way to forced them study and not making them to score well in match only. And it works because of his determination. The student have really work hard in their studies and prove it to the coach. And The team makes it into the state high-school championship playoffs. although they lose the match by 2 point. but the coach not that disappointed as they had try their best.

i love this movie very much. i would like to recommend to all my friends. This movie really allow me to learn alot of things that cannot be found in books. In life, there are many things to learn. we need to have all the determination, patient, efforts, perserverance, teamwork and hardworks things would be easily be done.

In conclusion, with determination, patient, efforts, perserverance, teamwork and hardworks everything is possible. without all this nothing can be done. it not only disappoint other peoples and also disappoint yourself. As i am a student, i will do my best and prove it to everyone that you can do better than others.

HeLLo there!!
Im here to comment this particular inspiring movie,`Coach Carter`.
Frankly, i manage to watch half-way of this movie during our LLA.
Basically, this movie was about a basketball coach who is really particular towards each and everyone of his team player`s future who still studying in high school.
To him, he does not want any of his players ends up in life with only one acheivement which is in basketball. He wants his player to have a balance excel in both sport and education. He belive with high education could only changes thier whole lifestyle. I wish such coach do exist!

However, there were many objection towards his positive reaction for his players. Not only the players disagree, their parents, teachers and even the medias disagree. To me, he is the role model for the students. No matter how strong the people objected him, he is still strong and stand up for his right for the sake of his players. At the end of the day, all his hardwork are not wasted!

I have learn alot in this movie. Afterall, is the level of education people are looking for, to have a stable job. Theres no such word which can stop us from being an achiever.
Giving up is the worst thing we can do in life.
Life has never been so perfect unless we made the changes. We have to be brave and face any problems with sincerity. This movie was fantastic!!

Coach carter…he’s a basketball coach…a very strict, discipline teacher who wants all his students to excel in both sports and studies…so that they get to enter to a college of their choice..but,his students doesn’t know that he meant well..instead,they get furious with him for banning the basketball competitions as they does not abide by the agreements that was sign by both the teacher and the students…coach carter inspire people to excel in both academically and physically(what ever it says)..and so…his students had no choice but to persevere by sitting on the front row everytime in the class and maintain a 2.3 point…the moral of the story:Perseverance works…(wakaka)
